Mercedes or Proton Perdana

Terengganu government has received the blessings of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi to use Mercedes as official cars, instead of Proton Perdana V6 as decided by Federal Government earlier.

The matter has caused disputes after Terengganu government has purchased 14 Mercedes Benz E200 Compressor cars at a cost of RM3.43 million to replace the Proton Perdana cars of its state executive councillors and senior government officers.

The Federal Government has indicated their disagreement on this and warned the state government to use Proton Perdana V6, the national car, as what other state governments were using.

Terengganu's explanation is that the maintenance fees for Proton Perdana are higher than Mercedes. Furthermore, Mercedes is more fuel saving.

By observing the way the Federal Government handling this matter, it has shown that the government is not firm and not consistent with their decision.

Well, other states may also start to consider to follow Terengganu.
